As Salaam Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Regular readers of MyIslamicFamily may well know that I recently created a Twitter account (@PerfectQuran) that posts an ayah every hour. When I wrote the (buggy) script that does the work, I had to find solutions to a number of problems. The major problem was/is many of the ayat do not fit neatly into the 140 character limit imposed by Twitter. My solution was to break the ayat into small chunks and spread them across multiple tweets. I did that because I wanted to avoid posting links in the tweets. Moreover, I wanted it to be possible for someone to read the entire Quran on Twitter.
I was taken aback by some negative feedback that I received, all of which was directed at my flouting of the 140 character limit. One Tweeplim (a Muslim Twitterer), demanded that I only post a maximum of 140 characters. When I explained that I could not, they promptly unfollowed me. Another Tweeplim, suggested that I might be changing the meanings of the ayat!
Has my Twitter misbehaviour annoyed you? Is my crime worse than being bad mannered? How could I solve this problem to appease Twitter purists?
