As Salaam Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Yesterday, we had to take Dhuha to the department of neurophysiology to do a test to check for epilepsy, because when she gets really into herself she does this thing where she tilts her head, looks in the corner of her eye and then shakes her head. You can see her do it in this video. Also, it appears to be quite a standard test for children that are suspected of having autism.
As tests and trips to the hospital go, this one was somewhat pleasant. The lights where dim and they put Bob the Builder on to keep Dhuha from pulling the wires off her head. I nearly dozed off, if it weren’t for Sabah on my lap I might have done.
Dhuha didn’t seem to mind either but she was making some strange faces as if to say, ‘what’s going on here’. To stick the wires they used this white glueish type substance and so when they finally took them off after about a half hour her hair was going in all directions and combined with the water they used to try and take the glue out her hair was looking greasy. I wish I had a camera at that time because it was so funny.
I know that I haven’t been giving a lot of details about some of the things Dhuha and the whole family are going through, notably the ‘diagnosis’ meeting. The reason is it is hard for me to articulate my feelings. It is a difficult thing to raise an autistic child and most of the doctors, nurses and other health professionals do not make it any easier.
I am planning to shift the nature of this blog slightly by focusing more on autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder), which I will be referring to as ASD in most cases. Those interested in Christianity and its faults can visit Biblerrors or visit some of the links I have on the subject.
